The area around Mulholland Drive to Laurel Canyon Boulevard is now under a mandatory evacuation order because of the fires.
An iconic area.
Mandatory evacuations were issued for Laurel Canyon Boulevard on the west to Mulholland Drive on the north to 101 Freeway on the east down to Hollywood Boulevard on the south. Evacuating warnings were also issued for areas north of Sunset Boulevard between the city of Beverly Hills and the neighborhood of Hollywood.

Curvy Mulholland Drive was known for high performance street racing back in the day, but that was all shut down by cops years ago. Charlie Sheen lives up there. Jack Nicholson too as far as I know. I know a guy who lives up there who was very prominent in the racing scene in the 70's.
King of the Mountain (1981) is a cheesy but fun movie about racing on Mulholland. Harry Hamlin, Deborah Van Valkenburgh (The Warriors), Dennis Hopper and others give respectable performances.
