Who saw this back in the day? What were your memories - the anticipation of seeing it in the weeks/days before, the actually seeing it and how much a big deal was it where you were back then, the crowds, audience etc and after coming out of the cinema what were your thoughts and in the days/weeks that followed

I saw it theaters i was about 17, i really had no idea what to expect but by the time the infamous club scene was over i was hooked. in act it was so good to me that i wanted to see it twice in the theaters. I can recall a decent amount of crowds at the theaters for the film, In 98 the big film i remember was Armageddon but to be honest i was a bit letdown with it Blade though was my sleeper hit of the year though this is all my opinion

          I saw it. I was like 12-13?
I snuck in to see it and thought it was soooo badass.
I was jumping off my couches doing living room karate and making swooshing noises all night.

I saw it when it came out. I just remember being in awe of it and loving every second!

haha yep like one of the other poster's ironically i was 13 as well ( born '85 ) when this came out. watched it with my 10 year old and 24 year old brother's at the time.. seems a while ago now but i do remember it still good.
this defintily had more atmosphere over the sequals maybe because it was definitly darker.. saw the sequals on the big screen as well.

Seeing Blade was one the best theater experiences I've ever had! This is seriously the most under rated superhero movies of all time! Blade should get the credit its due for being the one to bring superhero movies to the masses.

The trailer really had my brother and I excited. Army of Darkness, Highlander: The Final Dimension and this are the trailers that have probably had me most anticipating the movies. Kung Fu vampires? I was sold. Seemed so unique at the time. At school friends and I talked about how adrenaline rushed the action was. Disappointed in the CD soundtrack which had nothing to do with the movie (compiled my own accurate one years later including the complete score). The Marvel comic credit got me back in the comic shops, even though I disliked the Blade comics I read. Fun time.

I saw this movie, in theater, on a whim. I figured Wesley Snipes + vampires would be an interesting movie. Had no idea about the comic book series. I was blown away by how good it was. It was also one of the few movies I've been to where the audience just randomly broke out into applause.

I was hyped for it, but I don't think my friends were. After sitting through Marvel junk like "Nick Fury" and "Generation X" on TV, this was the first Marvel movie that seemed like it was trying to be taken seriously and not just a live-action cartoon. I also think that the trailer was excellent. I have seen a lot of movie trailers before and since and I still think this is one of the best put together trailers.
The movie did not disappoint in the theater, my friends were all pleasantly surprised. A lot of the friends I saw it with used to run a comic book store and were familiar with Blade from the comics and didn't think much of him, but liked the movie.
The sequel was also well-received and they definitely paved the way for X-Men which paved the way for Spider-Man which paved the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I saw it in the theatre several times. I liked the overall movie/story but I really admired the technical aspects like editing and cinematography and how they translated into something that was atmospheric. They also did a good job of portraying what people now call "hispter" club life during that time. I think that's one of the other reasons I liked it too. I don't think the sequels were as good (esp. the third one). I actually remember the original comic book introduction of the character back in the '70s. They also did a good job of building the world of
                          Blade
, if you were fortunate to look at the website at the time, it was pretty ground breaking. I don't know if they transferred any of it over to the DVD but they should have. The comics that came in after this film were interesting but not as gritty as the original stuff or this movie. Still one of my favorites though I wished they'd kept the N'Bushe Wright character in the series.

I saw it in the theaters. Twice, within the same week if I remember correctly. Blew my @&%#! mind. I was absolutely floored with how ground-breaking & incredible it was. Whenever I upgrade my movie watching system I always christen my new system by watching Blade. All the forces that came together to make this movie created the perfect storm. Kirk Petruccelli, Norrington, Snipes, Goyer, everybody man! This made me believe great CBMs could actually exist, plus it mixed so much: cool-as-hail Snipes, Shaft, kung-fu, R-rated, so much!

I wish I had seen it in theaters, especially more so now that we're in that pro PG-13 era where everything has to be watered down and aimed at the Twilight/Hunger Games crowd.

I am the same age as many if the posters here. I was 12-13 at the time. I saw this with my mom (which was really weird because she hates any movie that is remotely violent). She was horrified but tolerated it for my sake. I absolutely loved it and still do to this day.

I was 19 when I saw this in theaters. Totally bad ass movie. The theater crowd was really into it which made the experience all the more enjoyable. I'll never forget the moment when Blade was fighting off vampires during the La Magra ceremony and he reaches up and catches his sun glasses mid-air que techno music the whole theater exploded lol. Everybody was cheering! Such a great moment.

Yeah, I worked at a job telemarketing for a carpet cleaning company, and my work shift let me leave early on some days, so IIRC it was a Friday or Saturday afternoon; saw it in the Wildwood theater off Lakeshore in Birmingham, Al (theater's closed now); it impressed the hell out of me; had to post some stuff online back then about how some elements were similar to Becoming part 2 (aired that previous May) from Buffy, but it's more likely that Joss was familiar with the Blade script and "borrowed" some elements (Buffy's final fight with Angelus, Angelus' blood being the "key", etc).
When the DVD for Blade was released (just before Christmas '98), I had just gotten a new powered subwoofer for my home theater system, and the initial fight scene in the club really came alive - BOOM! BOOM!

When he starts walking down the street away from the camera, there are newspapers blowing in the wind. I thought was the definition of absolute coolness. What a BAMF! I remember thinking, this is our generation's Shaft. Odd thing was i had only seen Shaft for the first time in '95 or '96.

I was about 20 years old when I saw this in the theaters . I was amazed by the whole new world the movie created . It was so dark and had a real life feel to it . The crowd was cheering after the first scene at the vampire disco dance . Everyone knew the movie was going to be great . I remember the very night I saw Blade because an hour or two later on that night I got into a big accident on my bike and broke my arm . I had a complex fracture . They said I was delirious walking my bike down Main Street , I remember none of this . They told me my arm was broken ,I went to move it and went " Yeah it's broken " and laughed at them . I was I the hospital for 3 days after for observation, even though there was no observation .
