So many other English seakers on the nternet always mention Delon and Belmondo as the most beautiful French movie star who ever lived…… As a London girl I beg to disagree! Mine was since 17 Jean Sorel! THe first time I saw him on a randomly shown movie on satellite channels I was just so blown away by his angelic face!
That said I am wondering why in comparison to other contemporary stars lke Sophia Loren and esp Alain Delon, is he so overlooked across Europe? Even in his native France he rarely gets mentioned in greatest actors of all time though oddly he's often n top 10 most beautiful man movie stars who ever lived (a place so well earned!!!!!!) despite the general lack of focus on him.
Why is this? In particular why does Sorel always seem to be emphaszzed behind other contemporary A listers in the few big budget A list projects he satrred n (or gets overshadowed so quickly if he's among the maincast)?
I mean just see Belle De Jour where despite being the leading man, Catherine Deneuve is who everybody remembers from the movie (and would become far larger in continental Europe than Sorel ever was at his peak)!
Or how in The Bronte Sisters a then very young and still rising Isabelle Adjani gets credited for the movie!
    ANd plenty more examples.
    Why?

CLUE: The answer is ALWAYS the SAME.

his perfect looks would have worked better in the golden age; by the time he was around, those looks (and man he was good looking) were mostly over-the-top compared to the more swarthy and realistic looking leads
