The men of the village were sterile (due to Lord Lachlan's nuclear reactor) and couldn't produce children. That was the reason for sacrificing the Laddie and the May Queen, in order to restore their fertility.With Lord Lachlan gone, and his nuclear reactor likely gone, the people's fertility will be restored, and they'll attribute it to their sacrifices.
But where did the young child Angus come from, since the men couldn't reproduce ? He seemed to be the only child in the village.
