Safdie creates another asshole Jew

As with Uncut Gems, Josh Safdie (working without his brother this time) creates another greedy grifting Jew character who is frantically trying to lie, cheat and steal to stay afloat as time runs out.
Marty is an obnoxious piece of **** and is often his own worst enemy, creating more enemies as he frantically pursues his dream of being a ping pong champion.
The filmmaking is top notch on every level, but as with Gems the experience becomes quite exhausting, and Marty being such a douche makes it a pretty uncomfortable watch for 2.5 hours.
The fuse is lit with a great use of Alphaville’s Forever Young but that tone is never quite reached again.

the film enormously, but it’s not really to my taste. It’s worth watching to see if it’s to yours…
