I call it a settee in real life because that's what my parents always called it, though I tend to call it a sofa online because it seems more common. Settee sounds more posh though, maybe that's why my mum used it, though for that reason I find it a little embarrasing. Couch is too yank.

That's a Japanese bed and not a couch. (Same for day-bed, but some ppl use it as such!) Someone gave me one and I love it. More comfortable than a bed, no coils, no box spring, you put it on the floor.
I like the ones that are seen in old movies, where 1920's ladies use to lay (lie?) and sprawl their long dress on. They usually have a curly armrest, against which they slump.
