Perfect baked potatoes go as the following; wash, stabby-stabby with fork, microwave on high for ten minutes, flip and microwave on high again for another ten minutes. Pop into tin foil wrappers and bake on high for 45 minutes, flip and give another 30 minutes too. Remove from tin foil wrappers and put in am ovenproof dish, powder whatever seasoning you want over the potatoes and put back into the oven for 25 minutes. Flip and reapply seasoning, final 25 minutes in the oven again.
Outcome is crispy flavoured skins which can be eaten, fluffy centres which will soak up butter and whatever else you put into them.
Takes about 3 hours in total and should be done in a large batch as that amount of time is only used when you are cooking for a group.
I don't have kids, but feel free to kill them as my answer may have taken too long to tell

I enjoy something like like a Cajun seasoning rub at the end. It soaks into the remaining moisture and crisps the skin up right at the end. I'd have made up a couple of different coleslaws during the process and so balancing the new moist element with the crispy skin works great if you are having steaks or burgers with it all
A nice beer, some friends and music and there you have a great afternoon

I recently made the mistake of listening to a bunch of women on tiktok saying 35 minutes in an air fryer is good.
My daughter sent me pics of her and her friend eating them recently. I also keep seeing an american woman on tiktok make them, and now df has made a thread about them! What's with the potatoes recently! -

I always eat the skins.
I have heard that you get more nutritional value from the skins. All I know is that they add extra taste and texture.
