Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Television Awards

Very odd category to still exist in 2025.
Apparently this award was instituted in 1968 and for the first decade or so there were variety shows nominated alongside sitcoms (including
    The Partridge Family
, which was, of course, centered around a fictional band).
As far as I can tell, the only tangentially music-related series to be nominated since 1981 are
    Glee
    ,
    Mozart in the Jungle
    and
    Atlanta
. None of the various singing competitions have ever been nominated, nor have any of the PBS live performance series like
    Austin City Limits
    or shows like
    MTV Unplugged
    back when they still existed.
I think it's time for the Golden Globes to drop the "musical" part of the category, since they never nominate programs that would qualify anyway. And then maybe someone can teach them what a comedy is. Because
    The Bear
    isn't one.

Are there even any comedy shows anymore?

Yeah, South Park and Always Sunny are still going. And Schitt's Creek and Loudermilk are relatively recent sitcoms I enjoyed.
I actually like The Bear too. It's just not a comedy.

South Park and Always Sunny are ancient though. I haven't seen the other 2 you mentioned. It seems like there hasn't really been a comedy show that made a major cultural impact in years. They used to be the biggest shows on TV.
