I'm not a doctor and I mean no disrespect to the family in writing this. It sounds like Jeremy was a paranoid schizophrenic. It tends to hit men in their late teens (and is most prevalent in males) and in women, it tends to manifest in the mid-20's. That would explain the paranoia and the behavior in which he avoided contact with his family, thought police were 'after him', etc. I've personally known 6 people with this disorder and all but one committed suicide. Of the 5 who took their lives, 4 suicides were via firearms.
I wish there had been a diagnosisPS is more common than should be comfortable for any of us and, with intensive treatment, a PS may not be able to live independently, but the disorder can be managed and families can step in and care for the person. I have no doubt that Jeremy's family would've done this without question. Since the death of the Sons of Anarchy actor (and possibly many other actors who committed suicide or taken other lives before their own- Phil Hartman's wife?) I had hoped to see more of a push to diagnose and treat PS. But it's one of the mental disorders that stays locked in a closet due to stigma. ESPECIALLY in Hollywood.
I have a younger brother who is an actor. While he isn't a PS, I can't bear to think of living without him. I can't possibly imagine not only losing someone to suicide, but the 'not knowing' would be even more hellish. I know it sounds silly but I wish I could hug every one of you and tell you how sorry I am. Again, I don't mean to sound definitive regarding Jeremy's mental state and it could be he wasn't. I'm just super-sensitive to the behaviors of PS's and, while reading about the anniversary of 'Heathers', decided to look at all the actors pages and Jeremy's just jumped out at me.
He will be missed. He was simply terrific in Heathers. But it's you, the family, that I will keep in my prayers. Jeremy is at peace with God. You, on the other hand, will always have the hole in your lives and the pain of not understanding 'why'.
    Kindest Regards,
    Carmen Garcia

Beautifully written. Though not a part of his family, I thank you for sharing your discernment.

Just watched the movie Heathers which Jeremy was in. After all these years I had never watched it. I knew Jeremy in the 90’s. For a brief period, we spent a lot of time hanging out. Jeremy was seeing a psychologist for depression/anxiety. He did take meds for his issues. Realize this is an old post, just wanted to add that sometimes even with professional help it’s really difficult to know the extent of someone’s sadness and despair.

Did you ever tell the family about this 🤔 They should definitely know this 👍✌️
