A divided U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday that most of Donald Trump's tariffs are illegal, undercutting the Republican president's use of the levies as a key international economic policy tool.
The court allowed the tariffs to remain in place through October 14 to give the Trump administration a chance to file an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court.
The 7-4 decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., addressed the legality of what Trump calls "reciprocal" tariffs imposed as part of his trade war in April, as well as a separate set of tariffs imposed in February against China, Canada and Mexico.
The court's decision does not impact tariffs issued under other legal authority, such as Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
The Constitution grants Congress, not the president, the authority to issue taxes and tariffs, and any delegation of that authority must be both explicit and limited, according to the lawsuits.

On December 3, 2022, former President Donald J. Trump posted to the Truth Social media platform, “So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNS, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude
allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution
. Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”

Do you think the Supreme Court will rule in Trump's favor? Maybe they'll decline to hear the case and defer to the lower court's decision.

The Supreme Court will overturn this on appeal.

It doesn't make sense if they ruled it illegal they are still letting it happen?
I thought the brakes were put on things until after the appeal.

I love it when things like this backfire on him.
Just too bad that he and MAGA are still clueless that he is not a dictator and this doesn't humble or remind him enough to how government works which is why career politicians are better at being presidents and know the limits of their power and how to navigate the choppy waters in the system to keep their boats afloat.
Trump is like, "Let's just go for it in this leaky boat and nothing bad will happen," just before yet another one sinks.
