Do you keep the slipcovers or throw them away?

I suppose that as collectors you would keep them, but I tend to discard them as it looks odd when all the Blu-rays/DVDs are in line on my shelf. What do you do?

I'm even looking for unscratched slipcovers, when I buy them. Once I saw a girl a the cash counter throw one Bluray in a box beside her. Their goes the unscratched one. I wouldn't allow that in my house.
It's stupid but I'm too careful with my things. But they still look brand new.

I here you. I always spend a few minutes comparing copies of the same film for marks, tears, etc. on the slipcover. If I'm paying for it, I want it in the best condition possible, and I want it to last. If there isn't a decent copy, I go somewhere else. Silly, but they look so much nicer on the shelf, I always treat my movies well. 12 year old DVDs that I own are still scratch free. It's also disappointing when a movie I order new online ships without the slipcover. Ho hum. For some films, I don't care, but I buy my favorites in-store.
It breaks my heart when I see retailers like Walmart put constricting security devices around their more expensive Blu-ray/DVD set. Four cables extend around the set, permanently crushing the outer box/slipcover. Why anybody would pay $50+ for something like that is beyond me.

I feel really self-conscious about it, but I check for the most perfectly undamaged copy of anything I buy of this sort Blu-rays, DVDs, books, clothing. I can't just pick the first one of the shelf and buy it, I have to check that there are no nicks, tears, bashes, bends, or other anomalies. I too like to treat my stuff well, and like to get a good start by buying one that's perfectly unmarred.
Sadly, no less than four house-moves in the space of one year have taken their toll, and all my movies, CDs, books, you name it, have now wound up with some kind of tear, bash or scratch to the packaging now. Moving is a bitch -

Yikes! That sounds like a hectic year! I've moved four times in five years changing dorms and apartments during college/grad school, and that was not fun. I can't imagine doing all of that in one year!
Some of mine got dinged up too. It's hard to keep them pristine, but that's life. Things get worn. As long as I'm the one wearing them, it doesn't bother me. It does bother me when I lend out a favorite DVD, and the person borrowing it accidentally sits on the outer box.
I do the comparison thing all the time. I'm only self-conscious about it with certain titles. Being a 23 year old male, finding the least damaged copy of the Unbreakable special edition is no problem. Leafing through titles to find the perfect Lady and the Tramp blu-ray, I'll wait until the shelf is less crowded.

I do this with cd's. Especially at Wal-mart, 9 times out of 10 a cd case sold at wal-mart will be cracked or chipped. This is because the people who work at wal-mart don't give two sh!ts about stocking their cd's safely.
They seem to drop the cd's most of the time.
I always prefer the dvd cases to have the slipcover, I hated that the regular version of Toy Story 3 didn't have a slip cover like all Pixar dvd's and had to get the Buzz Lightyear special edition.
It doesn't fit on my shelf but the only dvd's I've bought in the last 3 years are Toy Story 3, Cars 2 and Inception. I use to buy dvd's a lot more but have been saving my money more recently.

Same for me and I keep the covers too
I bought a Blu ray once (Astro boy) and it wouldn't play correctly, only the extras
I finally took a look at the disc and discovered someone had scratched it near the centre
(this was a disc that had the transparent wrapping around it, so someone in the factory did it) -

I keep them on some titles that I'm not really going to access a whole lot. For others I take them off but store them somewhere, which is something I also do with dustjackets on books equally annoying but I don't discard them, just remove them and stash them while reading the book, put 'em back on for long term shelving.

I agree it can look odd when all lined up, but that doesn't really bother me, to be honest I prefer the look of them with the cover as it hides the big blu-ray banner.
Plus if you ever wish to sell a blu-ray on, many collectors will pay a little bit more for a disc that includes the slip-cover. -

Yes! I've always been a big fan of the slipcovers, especially the ones that Disney puts out. They look nicer and I think they make the special editions even more "special." A lot more movies have them now, but they still stand out with certain releases.
Oh, and I thought I was the only person that checked for scratches and other marks! I like going to Target for mine. Whenever I do get them there, I kinda walk around the aisle and inspect every inch of the slipcover. I try to do it in a way that makes it less obvious to others what I'm doing.
I even used to keep all of my Disney special editions in bubble wrap. haha
If I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?
