for someone to marry their own guardian? You'd think that would be an exclusion in marriage laws. I know it's illegal in this country for adopted siblings to marry, probably to prevent kids from being taken in in an attempt by their adoptive parents to provide their own biological child with a future wife or husband.

If I recall correctly, Count Olaf married Violet to get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune. Pedophilia had nothing to do with it.
