According to reports from multiple Hong Kong media outlets on Sunday, renowned kung fu film star Leung Siu-lung, known both for his portrayal of Chen Zhen in the television series The Legendary Fok and Fist of Fury and for his role as the "Beast" in Stephen Chow's film Kung Fu Hustle, passed away on January 14 at the age of 77.
The news was confirmed to Hong Kong media outlet Sing Tao Headlines by a friend of the actor. His family is currently handling funeral arrangements in a low-key manner, with the farewell ceremony tentatively scheduled to take place on January 26 in Longgang, Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong Province, according to Sing Tao Headlines.
Leung Siu-lung was a renowned kung fu actor from Hong Kong whose career spanned several decades. He first rose to nationwide fame in China for his portrayal of Chen Zhen, becoming widely known for his authentic, hard-hitting kung fu style.
Later, he sparked renewed interest among audiences with his role as the "Beast" in Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle, a performance that remains fondly remembered by a large fan base.
On Sunday afternoon, action film icon Jackie Chan published a post on Sina Weibo to mourn the passing of Leung. In his post, Chan wrote:
"Just returned to Beijing and was shocked to hear of Mr. Leung Siu-lung's passing. For a moment, I could neither believe nor accept it… In my memory, he was always the kung fu master skilled in multiple traditional martial arts, each executed with his own unique style. He brought a lifetime of expertise to film and television, serving as an outstanding action choreographer. As an actor, he created so many iconic roles that were deeply loved by audiences and admired by all of us in the industry. Brother Leung, it's snowing in Beijing, the sky is gray, and I am remembering you…"
On Sunday evening, Stephen Chow posted on Instagram to mourn Leung, writing, "Forever remembering Mr. Leung Siu-lung."
On Sunday night, a post titled "I've gone to a faraway place to make a film" appeared on Leung's Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) account, reading:
Please forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye.
Just think of it as me going to a faraway place to make a film.
I had wanted to keep it a secret,
so my close disciple continued posting videos as usual.
I like having a touch of mystery.
    Live well on my behalf.
    Love is always there.
    Remember that I love you.
