It made my heart smile! She was not only observant, but compassionate. I love it when people can live in harmony with nature.

I have a bird bath and a bird feeder. I put sunflower chips in the feeder. The birds LOVE them!

I want to get a hummingbird feeder to put outside the window by my desk, hoping to catch a glimpse of these beautiful little birds.
A bird bath is a great idea. Does it draw a big crowd? Do you ever get any other critters in addition to the birds? What are sunflower "chips"? When I think of those, I think of those crisps that are similar to Fritos or potato chips. Or do you have a separate little container to put little sunflower
            seeds
            into for them?
I have so many trees all around me that I'm surrounded by birds as well as squirrels, chipmunks, beavers, deer, groundhogs and in particular, two little white cottontail bunnies have taken up residence. Turkeys are plentiful around these parts, and they're always following a pathway in my backyard, including giving themselves a dirt bath in this little dust pit that they created halfway up the hill. They show up in droves! You name it, I've got 'em!
Maybe I should endeavour to make a birdbath for the birds this summer as a project this year!

I forgot to mention that I have a hummingbird feeder also. I mix four parts water to one part sugar, and then add Grenadine. It turns the mixture
              red,
              which attracts hummingbirds.
The bird bath draws a crowd, but the bird feeder draws a bigger one. There are sometimes eight to ten birds fighting for the four perches on the bird feeder, which is a
              Yankee Droll
. They are available from Amazon.
              Sunflower chips
are simply sunflower seeds with the outer shell removed. This means they're
              100% edible
with no waste. The birds LOVE them! I used to feed them sunflower seeds, but the shells made a really bad mess on the ground.
I also get squirrels, chipmunks, and an occasional deer. There are also two rabbits living in the green space at the back of my lot. To keep the squirrels off the birdfeeder, I mix
              red Cheyenne pepper
in with the sunflower chips. Squirrels do
              not
like the pepper, but it doesn't bother the birds.

This looks very doable as a starter for me.
By the looks of your feeder, it doesn't look squirrel-friendly, meaning, it doesn't look like some of the ones I've seen where it looks the squirrels could easily climb up, or slide down, and just find a way to perch, however precariously, and swoop in and chow down on all of the goodies set aside for the birds. They can be sneaky little buggers!
I like the idea of setting up a bird bath, but I'm not sure how to go about that quite yet.

Squirrels are the ORIGINAL sneaky little buggers! Perhaps you should get one like this:
Or you could build your very own
                  squirrel catapult!
As to the bird bath, just go to your local Lowe's Hardware Store and buy one.

I would never harm another animal intentionally, however, I do have a few exceptions. When it comes to spiders, while I do my utmost to ensue they all get released to the outdoors safely ever since I've gotten quite adept at capturing them safely under a paper cup with holes on the top so the always have air, and then I walk as far into the woodlands of my backyard and release them (knowing full well those little suckers are probably keeping an eye on me so they learn how to finagle their way back inside), and I only get combative when it comes to brown recluse because had a few close calls.
I do believe my best bet will be to purchase one from Lowes but right now, I don't have a way to transport it home. When my lawncare people come, I shall ask them about the cost and feasibility of one, only because I know my hose would never reach that. I'm not sure how I would tap water especially since I'd still need access to my water, so I'm imagining I would need some type of bifurcated hose or hose head to be successful at this.
As for right now, my next chore is making sure my mower can handle mowing the lawn and hoping I catch it in time since the battery needed replacing entirely, and a simple charge wasn't sufficient (and wouldn't address how very read and endangered my situation was becoming because…I tried it…smack smack smack…and buggered up the blades and motor ( juuuuust in time to buy it and longer covered ). Gawddammit, you can't make this **** up!!

You could buy a longer hose.
