Posted purely for educational purposes. As someone who is very interested in world folklore and esotericism, I find this topic fascinating and maybe someone else will enjoy it as well. There's no need to try talk me out of beliefs I don't hold

The above is a documentary companion to this book, which I read years ago and recommend to anyone with a interest in the subject.
Also of interest:
Backwoods Witchcraft
by Jake Richards
An overview of Appalachian folk magic as it's practiced today.
The Long Lost Friend
by Johann Georg Hohman
Der lange verborgene Freund
is a Pennsylvania Dutch grimoire from 1820 and a great example of the influence of German folk beliefs on American esoterica beyond the Appalachian region.
The Foxfire series
This series is much broader in scope and actually contains a few later volumes not pictured here. In short, it will tell you everything you could ever possibly wish to know about traditional Appalachian folkways, customs and beliefs, including several substantial sections on herbalism, hexes, and spiritual practices.

I find most belief systems interesting. I don't really hold to any of them. I just enjoy learning about them from a historical perspective, to try to get a better understanding of why certain people or groups may have taken certain actions.
