      This is a really good example of the choke points that exist in the world. This little contretemps will raise prices for some things, there are billions of dollars at stake. Crazy.

            Freaky weather appears to be the culprit: high winds from a desert sandstorm blew it off course and the ship rammed into the side of the Canal.

              BTW, the ship is stuck at both ends - bow and stern. So freeing it is not as simple as just towing it backwards. They'll have to dredge out the Canal at both ends of the ship, and carefully offload some of her cargo and fuel, then hopefully float and rotate the ship back into deeper part of the Canal. I hope all goes well. For everybody's sake.
