Studios typically put some of their strongest releases out during the holidays.

Fans of the Spider-Man character Kraven the Hunter will have to remain patient for the next few months. Director J.C. Chandor’s “Kraven the Hunter” spin-off film set within the Sony Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) has officially been delayed to December 13, 2024. Initially, the film was slated for release on January 13, 2023, before then being pushed back to October 6, and finally August 30.
Its two previous release windows—January and Labor Day weekend of this year—are arguably two of the worst release dates a film can have. This is usually reserved for weak movies that studios have little to no confidence in, quietly releasing them in the hopes of general audiences forgetting about them.
But “Kraven the Hunter” pushing to December demonstrates that Sony is more confident in this film’s success than ever. Whether or not it will be a success is up for debate, however. The previous entry in the SSU— “Madame Web”—managed to earn $100.3 million against an $80 million budget. While it didn’t fail to make back its budget, “Madame Web” still needed to earn a lot more to actually be profitable for Sony.
