I dunno about modern pick ups but don't they get lousy MPG compared to cars?
Sure, gramps doesn't need it anymore but I am going to take the one that will mean the least amount of fuel stops. -

They have to get to Canada to catch a plane to take them to Greenland to get to these underground shelters in time before a comet hits that is going to wipe out life on earth and they have just a few hrs to get to Can.
Don't Hummers have really bad MPG?
If so then you do not want to be making a lot of refuel stops.
(Which the movie did not show. I would think that gas stations would be empty from all the panicked motorists trying to get somewhere.)
A hummer was not an option for the characters anyway. -

Yes I did, I'm big on end of the world flicks. As to the Hummer, they just have to get to Canada to meet the plane, so I don't think fuel would be a problem. But if they run into any trouble
(as they did),
you could pretty much crush the bad guy's vehicle with a Hummer.

After thinking it over a bit more, I think you might be onto something.
If I had my choice of any vehicle I would take the most fuel efficient four wheel drive.
Maybe a jeep?
If it is a hummer then so be it.
Learn how to hot wire one at your nearest Natl' Guard armory.
Or carjack whatever the F you need.
The highways and roads are going to be so congested.
Better get something that can drive cross country or on the grass/dirt meridian to go past and around those jams.
In the meantime take a yoga class to get real limber in case you gotta kiss your own ass goodbye!
