Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Krampus

    ryansassy1 — 9 years ago(October 09, 2016 01:11 PM)

Krampus always seems to arrive connected with snow, and it becomes a terrible blizzard so that he has a means of isolating houses if not whole villages so that he can punish the people with ill will.
But what if you have populations in warmer, perhaps tropical areas of the world where families and kids have ill will at Christmas time? Would they be out of Krampus' reach?
Christmas is celebrated in every climatemany of which never have snow. Was this ever addressed in the film?

    "I'm sorry, but.." is a self-contained lie.

I just finished watching this movie; it's not addressed.
I don't think Krampus controls the weather conditions of the area to bring about a storm, I think the storm is an entity in and of itself; the vessel with which the Krampus moves about.

Santa travels via sleigh yet he brings gifts all over the world. I mean. this has been asked and answered since time immorial
The same rules for Santa apply to Krampus.
I couldn't believe when I read his filmography that he played a toilet (no joke) in According to Jim

Santa Claus is an invention by the Coca Cola company and has nothing to do with Christmas traditions outside the US.
St. Nicholaus (like the actual person Nikolaos of Myra) usually walks around with his walking stick. Very rarely he uses a sleigh.

How edgy you are. I'm not even going to bother posting references to countless Norse iterations of St. Nick that predate Coca Cola.

I'm not even sure if he was kidding or, sadly, serious. The traditional image of Santa predates the invention of Coke by
              decades
              .
              'Twas the Night Before Christmas
              was written
              60 years
before Coke's invention, and it describes him pretty much to a T like he is pictured today (except he was a small elf in the poem).
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.

Twas the Night is the creation of the modern imagery of Santa, but not the back story.

No, Santa Claus was not invented by Coca-Cola. He's existed for hundreds of years. Dope.

I assumed the Krampus put them into some sort of alternate world where he could unleash his mayhem.
Either that or, yeah, he controls a blizzard.

RE: OP - Literally nothing that you wrote actually has anything to do with Krampus. Krampus is Sinterklaas' companion. Sinterklaas' holiday occurs on December 5th, the date which is also known as "Sinterklaas". It has nothing to do with Christmas, cold weather, nothing. Sinterklaas gives gifts to good children, and Krampus punishes the bad ones by beating them with a switch. The really bad ones get kidnapped by Krampus, thrown in his bag, and eaten later.
