Why is this show so underwhelming?

AMC has the money to make this show Amazing. It should have better writings who could come up with more compelling characters. Dickens and Curtis are pretty good actors but the writers don't write to their strengths.
It's literally as if AMC puts so little value into this program knowing folks will watch anything with zombies in it regardless of content. -

I attribute a lot of it to the writing, in particular for Madison and Nick. Half the time, I don't know what's coming out of their mouths. But I also think Dickens and Dillane's acting is awful, not even trying and they are considered the 2 main characters at this point, and having your 2 main characters being woefully acted and unlikable is not good. I know Nick (indescribably) has a lot of fans, but he's an atrocious character. I think they should have chosen different actors for both parts.
People complain about the main group doing dumb things, but honestly they are geniuses compared to the most of the groups they've encountered. With a few exceptions, the writing for the guest characters is pretty bad.
Curtis is a great actor and he makes the most of what he's given. He had the best Season 2 subplot and biggest payoff. The Nick subplot went absolutely nowhere and the Madison subplot was mostly decent because of the more favorable hotel setting. Also, Daniel was a great character, so is Strand. I think the series could build itself with Travis, Daniel, and Strand as the main characters, and Ofelia, too, she's cool. But lose Madison and her 2 kids. They hurt the show.
