So Pride is on the rig with three
gun thugs- well one
gun thug
who is also a torch thug, and two regular thugs.
The Coast Guard cutter is hours away, and the others need to get out there ASAP. Let's see should they:
- Use a Coast Guard helo?
- Use a Navy helo?
- Use a state police helo?
- Use a JPSO helo?
Nope, let's use the oil company helo!

nobody knew that thugs were on the rig, which is why Pride got a ride with the oil company helo, the others didn't need to get out there ASAP until they found out about the thugs, that's when they were ordered by Pride not to come near the rig as it is about to blow.

Initially true, but my comment related to the later scene just before the halfway point when EVERYONE knew the thugs were there, which was well before Pride warned them to stay away. Here's the dialog from the script:
Gregorio: I take it no luck?
LaSalle: Apolis HQ lost all communications to the rig. They're scrambling to figure out what's going on. You do any better with the Coast Guard?
G: Redirecting their nearest cutter it'll be three, four hours before the boat reaches that rig.
L: So we got no way of warning Pride he's out there with a killer.
Sonja: Killers, plural. Dumped Darren's phone records from the night of the murder. He was in touch with two Apolis employees Jackson Hauser and Lyle Peterson.
Plame: Yeah, I checked their texts it appears that two of them was on the lieutenant's boat the night he got torched.
G: So Pride's not with one killer, he's with three?
S: And a trained one at that. Hauser's ex-infantry, fought in Afghanistan.
G: These guys put holes in that pipeline. There's a good chance they'll want to take Pride out before he blows the whistle.
L: And we don't have time to wait for the Coast Guard cutter to get there.
Let's call them back, see if they'll chopper us out.
At that point they knew Pride was in danger, and no one knew the rig was going to explode. The following scene was Pride and the girl, where Pride wanted to send an SOS. He made mention of his 3 person cavalry. We then saw more Sebastian training at FLETC- with him having a cell phone during room clearing training (more dumb writing, trainees do not have phones during such training). I'll add that stopping to answer your phone during that type of training is a massive fail, and combined with the other infractions would get him bounced from the training.
At this point, about 5 minutes of screen time later (more in real time), we learn the rig is going to explode. The following scene is Patton talking about how he can't connect to the rig, and how he could use an assist from Sebastian- which is
even more dumb writing
since Patton is an elite hacker.
Of course, during all of this time Gregorio and LaSalle are trying to get to the rig, and relying upon the company, not anyone else that has a helo such as the ones I mentioned, to get them there. During this scene, Patton gets the Morse code message and Sonja translates it: Rig is going to blow, stay away. Patton confirms this via satellite. Patton says they do not have long, and it goes to commercial.
When the show resumes, we see Gregorio arguing with LaSalle back at the office about getting on the helo, as LaSalle has turned the car around and returned. Presumably Sonja called them with Pride's message.
My comment related to the stupidity of not using a readily-available helo when they wanted to go to the rig and instead relying upon the company to get them there. This decision was well before they received Pride's message.
I also neglected to add that Pride acted like a rookie- questioning someone that has attacked another person with a torch
while the person is using a torch
! What a dumbass move! I actually laughed when he dropped the gun.
Speaking of Pride and guns, the
gun thug
fired 6 rounds, after which Pride made a comment about him having 11 rounds left. The NCIS issued gun is the 40 caliber Sig Sauer P228, which has a capacity of 13 rounds plus 1 in the chamber, for a maximum total of 14. The
gun thug
fired at Pride and the girl 6 times, which would have left 8. More poor writing. I'll have to add all of the above as goofs for the episode.

Obviously the antecedent to "them" is Coast Guard. They wanted to use CG chopper.
It's not entirely obvious, it's ambiguous. LaSalle said:
LaSalle: Apolis HQ lost all communications to the rig. They're scrambling to figure out what's going on. You do any better with the Coast Guard?
So they had been talking to both the company (Apolis) and the CG. They had relied upon the company to get Pride there in the first place. What's obvious is they failed to use any of the other resources for assistance. What they had at that point was an agent in distress, so in that case you send anyone that can go. As is the norm on TV cops shows only the NCIS people could go.
This is similar to a TV cop show victim that has been working with a detective and now the suspect is returning to the victim's location. Instead of sending the nearest patrol car, only the detective can respond, and does so in the nick of time. High drama, but low realism.
Thinking this over more, Gregorio said:
G: Redirecting their nearest cutter it'll be three, four hours before the boat reaches that rig.
That's more poor writing. If the CG knew an agent was in danger and had a helo available, she would have said something to the effect of "A cutter is 3 to 4 hours away, but they can have a helo there in 15 minutes" if one were available. If we believe what a trained agent such as Gregorio said, it sounds like the CG did not have a helo available. She would have inquired about one in her conversation with the CG. Eliminating the CG as a helo source, then "them" as used by LaSalle is Apolis.
Ignoring politics doesn't mean politics will ignore you.

Also gotta figure in the speed(s) of the different choppers and where they are coming from. Remember, the oil rig is 200 MILES off the coast. Maybe a Harrier from Pensacola? Arnold Schwarzenegger could pilot it
