Why was Jess in there in the first place? Who was she running away from? Was Sara even real? Was Jess pretending to be Sara and instead it was Sara inside the forest all along?
What about Aiden? Was he a bad guy? Does he know Jess? So many questions

I think she did go in to contemplate suicide, and then actually got lost and could not get back, even though she decided against it. So she was probably hanging around the forest for a bit trying to find a way out after figuring out that she WILL die if she does not find a way out.
In the beginning there was nothing, and it exploded.
