Great little horror movie.

I agree with your positive review for this movie, OWT- I just watched it for the first time (after first having read all the negative reviews) and found it highly watchable & enjoyable:
- Good solid & sincere performances from the leads
- Moody & atmospheric sets and locations
- Excellent jump scares & visuals in the best tradition of
"The Grudge" & "The Ring". - Oppressive on-screen tension in the best tradition of
"Blair Witch".
Not destined to be a horror classic like
"The Shining"
, of course, but still a fun popcorn movie, especially for a cold rainy afternoon/night.

Count me in the camp that enjoyed it. It had a few little errors, but overall it was highly watchable and enjoyable as you all are saying (minus that one guy, heh).
I also thought that it was a competently done horror movie. Y'know how a lot of horror movies feel "cheap"? Not so with this one. Hardly a moment was wasted, nearly every scene contributed to the movie, and the cinematography was excellent. I just wished they had figured out a better way to do the scene where she runs away from Aiden. By having him yell "Give me the damn phone!!" it feels cheap and forced. =/ It just doesn't fit with his character. And also giving her a knife. I mean this is clearly an unstable person, and he gives her a knife lol. I just wish they had worked on his character more. But overall I highly enjoyed it.
About why people may be giving it a low rating. I think some of it may be the liberal babies crying "whitewashing" and some of it may just be people lacking taste in horror movies. -

I thought this film was pretty damn good. I liked the overall spooky gloom-doom vibe and the titular forest was realized in an extremely vividly eerie and unsettling sort of way.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
