In the original manga Takumi is a twenty something high school student, ex-bosozoku (

He notices the death games have much to do with a doujinshi he was given by Kamimaro (in the movie that homeless guy, the god) and rushes out of home with the said doujinshi (this scene is depicted in the movie) to go to see the commentator of the news show to show him the doujinshi.
