Nope! Totally different plot and subplots.
spoilers:
Sinners is about racism and the attempt of two ambitious black men to become successful in a racist country where Jim Crow is the law. Their latest attempt is to to have a blacks-only nightclub in the Deep South.
It also deals with bigotry against the Irish and other race-related themes like colorism, Irish and Choctaw historical connection, early Chinese-American history in the area, relationships, etc.. This movie had some interesting complex layers and history if you watched it carefully. "Dawn" was just a standard vampire flick with over-the-top violence. "Sinners" is mainly about bigotry with the vampire story practically secondary which I liked.
"horror doesn’t take place until the final act"
Horror throughout and from the beginning when a bloodied man enters the church. Vampire horror when bloodied Remmick flees for his "life" and given shelter by two racists whom he brutally kills. And one twin shoots a guy.
Btw, I saw "Dawn" in the theater and despised it. I'm watching Sinners for the 3rd time. Each time, I find something new. -

Sinners is a total disaster. Ryan Coogler's vampire movie with Michael B. Jordan as twins in 1932 Mississippi had big promise but flops hard. It's painfully slow, with zero scares-vampires are laughable, not creepy. The plot's a chaotic mess, trying to mix horror, history, and music but failing at all. Cool themes about racism and blues get buried in dumb dialogue and plot holes. Jordan's awesome, and the visuals and soundtrack rock, but the story's garbage, and the action's a sloppy, predictable mess. Total letdown.
Sinners is what happens when a film tries to be everything and ends up being nothing. It's a chaotic genre cocktail-part gospel, part vampire flick, part history lesson-and none of it works. The plot is a noisy, pretentious jumble; the symbolism is so heavy-handed it bruises the story; and the acting, though well-cast, drowns in overdirection.
Michael B. Jordan plays two roles-unfortunately, both feel equally hollow. The movie drags for over two hours like a sermon you regret attending: too long, too loud, and entirely self-impressed.
If this is the "best movie of 2025," then cinema has truly sinned.

have lost all credibility for rating here at IMDB seeing this movie getting a higher rating than 1. It has 10 minutes of quality movie - all 10 in the music and singing parts. The rest? The first part contains some half decent character building that was just thrown in the waste bin in the last half. The latter was an orgie in vampire giggling, spraying arteries and "1970's- bad-special-effects" kind of film. It's mindgobbling that anyone watching this can even be slightly entertained and also rate it as a very good movie. Which 7,6 would indicate (at the time of this review).
Are we starting to see the effects of the "Netflix era" of mass produced series and movies all setting the bar in the lower half of all rating spans? So that it suffices to enroll one hunk of a movie star and a short segment of really good music (log in to spotify instead) to get a great review? big sigh. This by ALL normal standards of a movie a really, REALLY bad movie and you will never get your 2h back if you still watch it, so please don't waste those hours. Take a walk in the park instead and watch the grass grow. It will be more entertaining.

You are not running for public office. Spare us Coogler's failed attempt at presenting Black victimhood on the big screen for the 10,000th time.

I saw it and enjoyed it. Although it is very overrated. Michael B. Jordan is an average actor.
What hurt the Film was not exploring Remmick more.
Remmick was by far the most interesting character on the entire film.
Also, Twin Brothers or not.
Once one became a Vampire he would not have kept an agreement to spare Sammy.
Vampires are ruthless , regardless of what their race is or was before they were turned.
Vampires only think of two things once they are turned, Drinking blood and turning as many regular folks into creatures like themselves.
So he would not have let him live to an old age without bothering him or going after him. Hence the meeting him in the jazz club scene that took place 60 years later in 1992.
So ur absolutely wrong. I not only saw the film but I saw it twice.

Not all vampires are evil or ruthless: Edward and his family in "Twilight"; Louis in "Interview with a Vampire"; Angel in "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer"; Michael in "Lost Boys"; Barnabas in "Dark Shadows"
Remmick isn't evil. His character is complex which makes him interesting. In a way, he identified with the persecuted black people likely because he was also persecuted. First, in Ireland, then in the U.S..
If you think about it, Remmick empowered both brothers from racism when he turned them into vampires. One could be with his girlfriend and the other killed the klan.
It reminds me of TV's "Interview with a Vampire" because Creole Louis is empowered.
There was plenty about Remmick, but not enough about the Choctow. I'm borrowing the DVD which has plenty of extras including 20-minutes of outtakes. -
