I have a book called astral travel.
    By Gavin and Yvonne Frost
And in a chapter called ‘I’ and ‘Me'—The Duality within You
    It says this:
We consider the ‘I’ as the consciousness. The easiest first projection you do is the separation of an astral double from your body. This double is usually connected to the earth-plane body by a visible thread. The double contains the ‘I’, though it is not the ‘I’. Once the astral double is out, ‘I’ can easily separate from it and fly free. Alternatively, many people first learn to separate their consciousness ‘I’ directly from ‘Me’. The consciousness then has no cord connection to the mundane ‘Me’ and is the only part of the entity that can travel into the higher spiritual realms. Figure 4.1 shows the characteristics and capabilities of the three parts of an entity.
