First time I saw this, it was opening night in the theater. I enjoyed the action bits, but the first hour and all the dramatic bits felt poorly edited. Midway I had to actually remind myself what was going on so far in the movie. I gave it a 6.5/10. I enjoyed it, but it could have been better.
Next time, I watched the Ultimate Edition, first day it came out in the summer. I watched it with an open mind, and Ronny surprise, it was a way better film experience than the Theatrical Cut. I didn't feel as lost, and I with the flow of scenes greatly improved and addition of new scenes, I felt more invested in the characters despite having to wait for all action towards the end. It was a solid 8/10 epic film for me.
Now I watched it again, the whole Ultimate Edition, and I will say after seeing many movies lately, this film grew on me more. I do not compare it to Marvel, because it's like apples and oranges. But I really appreciate the cinematography, the acting, the cool moments, the vision behind some shots, and just seeing the DC heroes kick butt at the end. Still a solid 8/10.
I think I'm forever gonna be at a loss as to why this film was ripped apart so bad, but if you'd like to know my taste in movies, I will say my least favorite film of 2016 was When the Bough Breaks, but my all time favorite was Hacksaw Ridge. -

It's because movies are notorious for starting "fanboy wars" and since Marvel created their "shared universe" legion before DC made theirs they have more people biased towards their company and that's why you always see films not released under Disney getting torn apart by people who are already biased to MCU.
It's a fanboy war and Marvel just happens to be the Call of Duty of the comic book movie franchises.
If BvS was released before the whole shared universe thing started it'd have been much more well received because there weren't enough comic book movies at the time to create different allegiances.
That's why we see so many good comic book movies appear to be "splitting" people right down the middle into a great divide. The negative reviews are from Marvel fanboys and the good reviews are from people that haven't sworn allegiance to the MCU.
Don't believe me?
Just look at how many 40 yr old MCU trolls have lingered on this board for 3 years desperately trying to convince all fans of BvS that they're wrong for liking the film.
Normal people just don't do that kind of thing.. and certainly not for so long.

I know what you mean OP. Not many movies get better with repeat viewing, but Ultimate Edition certainly does for me. In fact, I'm thinking about watching again sometime this month.
Definitely one of my favorite CBMs of all time.
