How to get around the relative lack of female characters.

Let's face it..in this day and age it's not desirable or wise to have an all male cast with the exception of Lady Silence (who I believe will need to speak for a series to work).
As much as I disliked the flashbacks on LOSTthis would be an excellent way to bring in Lady Jane and of course Sophia Cracroft who alone would up the sex qutient. Barring flashbacks then they could cut back to England and we could see the pair organizing search parties but the flashbacks would work better so they could be in scenes with Sir John and Captain Crozier. -

Having Lady Silence speak would change QUITE a bit to the whole nature of the Tuunbaq and it's relation to the story. I hope they don't change that, but I'm totally up for flashbacks.

Lady Silence does not need to speak at all. as another person said, it would totally mess up the climax involving the Tuunbaq. as for resolution to the potential problem you've brought up, i don't think you can really create parts for characters beyond women who popped up in flashbacks. i think all you can do is cast actors who women find attractive.

Done, at least for me. They have cast Tobias Menzies as Capt. Fitzjames (and please no one come tell me that a character described as "the handsomest many in the Navy" should be played by Paul Giammatti for the sake of realism or whatever).
Personally, I find it patronizing to assume that women would only watch a film or show if it features a considerable female presence. I'd rather watch an actor I fancy than an actress I don't care for.
As for the flashbacks to Caracroft, I hope they are done better than in the novel. Crozier becoming that much of a love fool (love moron, actually) and their outdoor sex antics in the Victorian era were too much for my suspension of disbelief.
People of their status would have never run the risk of getting so easily caught and disgraced for life.

So for the sake of political correctness, they need to balance in more women screen time when the novel itself limited women because it wasa 19th century maritime story?
I guess the Revenant and many others weren't desirable or wise because they didn't force casting women.
