What got the tie?
I thought incendies was the most over praised of the lesser known movies of the past year.
Sicario is solid as is Prisoners if Fincher esque
Enemy was intriguing
Have yet to see this. At least he's not making marvel movies. -

Really? Just a boring movie ? perhaps you should restrict yourself to sci-fi/action/adventure flicks which appease the eyes & dull the senses; because just maybe theres a little to much meat hera & not enough potatos.
Because when really good movies do comes along, i have a sense that
"beans and rice did miss ya". -

Yeah I think the same people who love this are the same people who love stuff like 2001 and Tree of Life. My favorite types of movies are actually thrillers/dramas/horror. I do really like sci-fi/action/adventure tho.

What's called the drama in this film is part of the actual sci-fi of the film. I think when a film is known to have human or alien space ships in it, people automatically think it will be like Independence Day, Star Trek or Cruise's version of War of the Worlds. I think that's one reason why some were disappointed with Interstellar - because it wasn't like those.

I think the sci-fi genera should be graded, because there are so many films that goes under the sci-fi tag, which really isn't.
- Many are simply action-films (Dredd, Demolition man, Gravity, Armageddon), or Fantasy (star-wars, star trek, avatar etc) set in a future/space/alternative reality.
Real sci-fi IMO, does not do the "Set warp-speed to 5 Mr. Skippy, get us out of here!", but rather examines concepts and ideas of time, or interstellar space-travel or technologies or philosophy/ethics and issues. - Mooon
- Interstellar
- 2001
- Minority report
- Arrival
- The Matrix
- Time machine
- Ex Machina
- 12 Monkeys
etc
Some films share elements from both action, fantasy and "real" sci-fi and are harder to classify, but if people aren't aware of the differences, they slump into films like Arrival and yawn and complain.
If people are hating on this movie, they are simply watching the wrong genera or likes a different genera, it's as simple as that.
Doesn't mean that this film is bad, but that your taste is different.

I didn't like Moon, I felt that was more Drama too.
Outland was a drama, disguised as a sci-fi, but still a very well made movie.
Other great sci-fis:
Altered States
Dune
The Fly
Hardware
Sunshine
Alien
Videodrome
Thing
Westworld
Darkstar
Robocop -

I felt it got even slower haha, it's like a who-dunnit, once you find out the plot, would you really want to sit through 2hrs with one actor, and one set? Almost as bad as THX1138, or Brazil.
Similar to The Machinist it's a great film, but another who-dunnit, it would take at least a couple years to watch again, a great movie can be viewed every other month IMO, who-dunnits are risky, they really only came out for drive in theatres, not for rentals.
