Why do people (in movies) bring up all the hate talks to their dining table? Why can't they eat silently? Do they have no time to talk except while eating?
WTF?

It is not unusual. My family got to a point where we could not eat together without an argument starting. I extracted myself from the situation by saying "Bonanza" and "The Big Valley" were on and I was thankfully excused (no one could have stopped me anyway - I'd have just left the house and eaten somehow somewhere else). So family BS at the dinner table, in some families, is a typical dinner. Probably because it is the one time everyone is together!
