I missed the smirk at the end and found the finale to be mediocre, but now, after reading a few other threads and being convinced that there was a smirk; I think that makes for a fantastic ending!

Yeah it makes it much better, especially with that rant from him earlier in the movie about how he would do anything for a million views

Ethan's smirk at the end was genuinely chilling to behold. He knew damn well that he got away with driving that old man to suicide.
