I enjoyed this documentary (which is now streaming on Netflix).
Don't expect a tutorial about wine. If you want that, then watch something like John Cleese's Wine for the Confused (which is simple, funny and entertaining for an amateur) or even Jancis Robinson's Wine Course (which, although a bit dated, is more detailed, with a more of a travelogue approach and with Janci's astringent touch adding "spice" to the proceedings).
At first I was interested, then I got somewhat turned off witnessing the rapport of all these "men" teasing each other to the point of irritation, posturing, etc. and even felt uncomfortable with the amount of pressure that this situation was putting on them and that they put on themselves and their loved ones. At some point I thought: Is this really worthwile? All of this because of wine? Isn't the main thing about wine supposed to be about pleasure? I came perilously close to dislike the whole notion of a "Sommelier" title or its worth as as a job itself.
BUT, I couldn't help but being hooked to the drama of it all and the last act (who passed & who didn't) was quite riveting.
I had to have a big glass of red when it was over (and no, I didn't shoot the glass in slow motion like the segues on this feature).
Definetly worth gulpingi mean, watching.
