It is patently obvious. It would be funny if people were smart enough to not get taken in by this nonsense. "This wine tastes like new tennis balls." That's great, no really, I'm sure lots of talent and diligent study went into that statement. Okay, unless there actually are new tennis balls in that wine, while appreciated, that assessment is entirely unnecessary. And these clowns get paid big money to say stuff like this? Also you might have noticed that none of the master sommeliers or candidates seems particularly bright. So how hard could this test possibly be?

Actually sommeliers are not paid much, unless they own their own restaurant or store. As for the test, sure some MIT student could memorize all their is to know about wine and service is probably the easiest part. However, one cannot cram for tasting and can only pass after trying thousands of wines which would take years and possible decades to learn. Any exam which there are only 229 people alive who have passed is extremely. I know numerous people in the food, wine and hospitality sectors who although they are passionate about wine have said they do not have the time to study and work to become a master sommelier.
