This movie felt pretentious to me, specially the classical music part. And the argument about the vampire book was so contrived and fake.
Why would I save a world I no longer have any stake in?

I think that was the point.

I don't think that was "the point" at all. It was meant quite sincerely.

Nope. It really was pretentious. Said it myself while watching the movie. It tried very hard to be clever, yet failed rather resoundingly. If it was trying to make a point, it failed.

Or maybe it made its point and you failed to grasp it?

I think the argument about Twilight was fake too, but not for the same reason. I think Jesse was kind of using that book to stall out a romantic evening with Zibby, because as you know, he was very conflicted about it, and needed confirmation that he wasn't crazy, and that's what the book argument did for him, before his old professor sealed the deal on his problem completely.

I wouldn't date a girl who was into Twilight.

                      Well, define "into Twilight".
Anyone who watches or reads it.
I mean, if you met a girl who was funny and smart and nice and into you and interesting and liked things in addition to Twilight, you wouldn't give her a chance?
                      Nope.
Zibby had a point here: it's fluffy and she knows it's kind of bad but she thinks it's fun and it makes her happy. Everyone has or should have that stupid thing that is low brow and pedestrian that just gives them common joy. Don't you think?
                      Nope.

By the way, I thought she held her own quite nicely in the argument and was not wrong. At all.
She wasn't wrong for having her preference. However, I think she missed the point of the other book she used as an example for what he liked to read. His ideal book was more about the formation of the content, instead of the actual story. He could've just dismissed what he was reading as "unlikable", but he saw the complexity, which was the point he tried to make to his fellow book-reader, before she blew him off to mess with his head. No big deal though. She was obviously expanding her herizons by the end of the movie, so i'm sure she eventually got his point about "books you love to hate", rather than "books you hate".

Sums up my thoughts about this movie, It's unlikeable to me but watchable.

The whole Twilight discussion wasn't only about good writing, but about age. A vampire hundreds of years older than this love interest. I thought it was clever, but wanted explanation and reason between the main characters.
