My favourite season is Asylum because the writing, acting and music were amazing. Sister Jude's redemption arc is what dreams are made of.

      Favourite seasons:

      1. Roanoke - loved the meta approach. Thought My Roanoke Nightmare was super creepy (I've always found those Paranormal Witness type shows scary), then the drastic change halfway through was incredibly cool. Also this season felt really fresh in terms of what the show has given us.
      2. Asylum - this season was so dark and just had a really evil vibe to it. It kind of felt like they threw everything in (aliens, WTF?) but that fact that half the character were crazy kind of played into that. Also, Sister Jude FTW!
      3. Coven - this one was so much lighter than the other seasons and following Asylum, that was welcomed. It also felt like a truly developed world (I would watch a Coven standalone series). Plus, empowered women is always awesome to watch!
      4. Murder House - it's been a while since I've watched this one, but I remember it just reeling me in. Loved the twists and turns but compared to the other seasons, it felt kind of simplified. Three reasons I really liked it though: Connie Britton, Jessica Lange and Dylan McDermott's butt!
      5. Freak Show - the concept was cool but this season sort of fell in on itself. It had too many characters and didn't have a strong enough story to justify ignoring Angela Bassett half the season.
      6. Hotel - total mess in my opinion. Literally from the first episode this was all over the place. Gaga was great, but it felt like the show had peaked and this was just more of the same problems Freak Show ran into. It became more about style than substance. Thank god for Roanoke!
I just realized you only wanted favourite season and why ummm.. here are my faves in order with why.. Lol!

Aha! This was a good read. Thank you.
I totally agree with everything you said about Roanoke. Even though it is not my favourite season, I loved how fresh it was. Also, Audrey was hilarious.

Covenbecause I love witches. No it didn't have the best finale, but it has become painfully obvious that Ryan doesn't know how to do finales. Still it's Coven all the way.

Can we both agree that Coven's costumes were beautiful?

                        Well acted.

1.) Asylum - it's super dark, I love it. Sister Jude, yes, also Sister Mary Eunice.
2.) Murder House - it's a simplified horror story, just this house with A LOT of history.
3.) Roanoke - it's a different show compared to the past 5 seasons with several callbacks to each season.
4.) Coven - always fascinated with witches. Like someone stated above, I could watch a standalone Coven series. Kinda got excited when there's a rumor about a Coven spinoff during its run, but didn't pan out.
5.) Hotel - I REALLY like the idea and the setting, but disappointed at some point.
6.) Freak Show - this is more like horror-drama, but I like it nonetheless. Disliked its song-and-dance numbers haha!

Asylum. I went in with low expectations and was blown out of the water with the characters and story arcs of Lana and Sister Jude. Mary Eunice was an awesome charachter as well. If only the alien plot had been taken out or taken in a different direction it would have been perfect for me. I liked how dark and hopeless it was too.

Despite my disappointment over the last few minutes of the finale, Roanoke is my favorite season. I thought it was a good storyline, and I thought it was plenty scary and fitting to the horror genre without being too campy or over the top with gratuitous sex and excessive violence. I mean, there was plenty of violence with all the slashing, head bashing, and cannibalism, but much of the worst of it was so quick it was more shocking than gross. I thought the format of using different types of television and media to tell the story was very clever and it was something I've never seen done before. I liked how they brought so many of the actors back from previous seasonsI just wish some of them had had more screen time. But every character, no matter how little screen time they got, was important to the overall story.
The only real disappointments I had were in the final episode. I don't like how they didn't really explain who or what the witch was or mention her in anyway in the finale. I also thought they could have had a better conclusion with Lee and her daughter. I thought it was too abrupt. I can even get over the idea of Lee basically getting away with murder, I just think it was kind of unbelievable how they did it with the jury letting her off the hook basically because they didn't believe in ghosts, and didn't like how they tried to make her more sympathetic in the last few minutes. I think there was more than enough evidence to convict her even if they discounted the entire ghost thing. And she wasn't acting like a selfless loving mothershe was acting like a desperate, crazy person with more than a smidge of deviousness.

I agree. I loved everything about Roanoke's finale but the ending with Lee and Flora. I understand that she is attempting to redeem herself but it made everything we saw her go through pointless. However, it was a unique and tense episode.

Roanoke is the best season IMO because the others was only funny homages to it's genres. Roanoke is really tense in comparison with the other seasons.

Asylum. The acting was probably at its best and I loved the cultural references of the 1960's. I think it was the true American horror story. The characters were real people and it was easy to connect with them. I think Roanoke is pretty much tied though. The format was so different but they pulled it off really well. By far the most creative and innovative season. I loved the exploitation themes as well.
