Just when I thought they had his meds properly adjusted, Bill starts talking to trees again.

I was also a little disappointed in Grady wanting to jump in an untested formerly sunken boat in croc infested waters, in the rain. I can't believe he argued that point at all.

Sadly, he still somehow managed to come off as the sane one in this episode.
I don't know what was going on with Grady but it was like he became possessed by Joe.
He wanted to keep moving early on when they found dry ground and needed sunlight to make fire. Later, he doesn't even admit he was wrong when a storm came through.
Then he became suicidal when he wanted to drop a damaged boat in the water while it was still raining even though at the time the boat was their only shelter, they just found fresh water and they had a turtle to eat.
What is it about these military guys and wanted to run off as soon as they find fresh water? At least stay until you eat and can replace the water used in digestion. -

Indeed, it seemed like Grady had a death wish going on there. I noticed that he also expressed dissatisfaction with Bills choice of footwear. But I don't see them ever becoming too hostile with one another over these matters. It seems that Grady and Bill are Joe and Cody lite. Maybe that was part of the success of the previous pairings, and that some of the fans thrived on the tension between the two participants. It seems that this board is hardly active with the new season.

I can it see from both sides. Bill's feet were more exposed and could get cut on the rocks. On the other hand his feet can dry out easily and wont get infected from staying saturated. Bill also had a good point about it slowing him down and making him more careful where he stepped which was almost immediately validated when Grady sank in the swamp a minute or two later.

Agreed. There was evidence of this in the previous episode when they had to turn back after spending most of the day heading in the wrong direction. Bill asked Grady to slow down and suggested they go ahead camp and try to catch fish. Grady didn't want to and after Bill made his point, rather than argue, Grady said it would just waste more time and begrudgingly agreed and started on a shelter. If that was Joe and Cody the argument would gone on longer with Joe acting macho and Cody yelling "f*#@ you Joe" followed by a commercial break.
I already like them more than I ever did with Joe and Cody. -

Same here Arbuckle. While I can certainly understand Joe and Grady's frustration, I don't care for the added drama.
I guess the moral of the story is that if you plan on heading out with a hippy survivalist, don't plan on being in too much of a hurry, since he assuredly will not be wearing the appropriate footwear for the occasion, and will never wish to return home -

I can't quite understand their frustration. Survival is about care and caution. Joe and Grady should know that. They have talked about having to be careful to avoid injury in a survival situation. That should also extend to properly maintaining their bodies.

Yeah. Isn't that a real kick in the head?

I don't think its the military influence so much as it is the perception of those in charge of how military guys are supposed to act. And I think they have acquired that perception since Dave left, because he never acted like that.

Talking to trees isn't the worst thing in the world. That was a huge, obviously very old tree. Remember these "primitive survivalists" are hippie types, sort of. They're going to have some quirks.
I'd rather talk to trees than walk around in the wild barefoot like Cody did. They even had Matt doing yoga in the Himalayas, which was frustrating Joe. -

It's most often self-projection or people are high on shrooms.
We already had this topic some time ago, but I'm too lazy now to look for the thread(s).
Trees communicate with each other via fungi, the

.
And this
is a nice, short video about it.
