    Other than that I didn't get the concept. It almost feels like Abrams didn't even care what happens just as long as he sets up some 70s/80s nostalgia.

      Its a scifi coming of age film. Its perfect. Everything about it screams passion. Its great.

          The movie is mostly about Joe and his friends and the relationships they have. The whole alien thing is more of a side story plot device. Also, one of the things I like best about the kids is how REAL they seemed. The things they say and the way they interact, that's how kids really do behave. It's different from how most movies portray kids. Most movies have kids act as "movie kids", the way you would expect kids in movies to act, but this one has them act like "real" kids, the way kids act in real life rather than in a movie. Super 8 was a masterpiece that never got the recognition it deserved.

            Putting the kids aside everyone else is just a dumb stereotype i am afraid.
            Dads, Sisters, Army guys.
            The monster is also uninspired and generic.
