the hype was high on this film upon release, with the mystery of the creature
anyone else feel like this was one of the most disappointing film in recent times? its not terrible but its so mediocre when compared to its advertising and viral campaign

I personally love the movie, but I do think early on the viral campaign was a bit misleading. It marketed it as more of a
Cloverfield
type of film, when in truth it's more
Close Encounters
meets
E.T.
; an homage to Spielberg by Abrams. Eventually that became clear, but some people may have gone in expecting something else.A journey into the realm of the obscure:

its the misleading nature of it that I found very disappointing
the film works okay as a more lighthearted summer family film but it certainly didn't seem that way in advertising for months

Yeah, I think they had such success with it (the mystery) promoting
Cloverfield
that they decided to apply it here as well. But while both feature creatures of some sort, that's about where the similarities end.
I think they quickly learned that and changed course, with the retro inspired Rocket Poppateers viral campaign (
) doing a much better job of capturing the spirit of the actual film.A journey into the realm of the obscure:

The movie is clearly intended to exist within the same cinematic universe as Cloverfield, much like many of Steven King's stories dip in and out of one another, and as such I applaud Abrams. Can't think of any other directors playing that kind of "long game" at the moment. Seems they're about to dip their toe back into the universe again with 10 Cloverfield Lane as well.

I beg to differthis film is terrible!!! Yes that's three exclamation points! Yes! Three!
I hate evey character in this film and the chemistry between G&E isWHAT CHEMISTRY??? Yes! Three question marks! There is zero chemistry between these two bores!!! Yes three exclamation points!
A more sterile movie couple I've never seen.
these are the kinds of people that people secretly laugh at behind theiroh who am I kidding? We laugh at them too their faces!
