Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Absentia

Absentia is a certified sleeper. The film is exceptional. The film requires the multiple views rule though that they may be due only to the film a real diamond hidden deeply in the crates, that by chance factors of not alot of money, etc
But that same set of circumstance is what helps it grow and after several viewings, the first few with the film in the background, it brings that authentic comfort really good movies do.
It is Golden age and that will only get better with time. Every single actor and sum total of cast and crew really placed some magic on this film.
Given the story about the film being made by the actual actors is even more cool.
Katie Parker is a bonafide Babe. She is no broomstick. Me Parker, do not change! Almost all of the comments here confirm it is the Natural-Ity of a Woman that is a Wonder in this film. Fragile, lost returning from vulnerability to fighting the still unknown evil and villain of the tunnel.
The role of Ms Parker's sister is exceptional. The big guy detective reminds me of the character actors of the 70's movies where the supporting cast were as important as the lead Actor, same as the classic ballads where the background singers truly made the song.
The Director knows what he is doing. He places the same tension on this film like Wan and his contemporaries do with their films.
There could actually be a sequel in this. Just be mindful to keep the same energy and don't over do it!
    Long live Chiller channel

I agree with every word. This is a highly underrated, unappreciated gem.

        Right on somesunnyday!
The bonafide comfort sleepers on Chiller channel these past few years in my own opinion are:

        1. Absentia - Ms Parker is really pretty, that would be a cool sequel her coming back as a tuff lady fighting the tunnel evil.
Perhaps the Director could do that in the not over the top way Kellita plays Lt. Warren in Z Nation or Rose Byrne in Insidious
        2. The Innkeepers - totally caught off guard by that one. Kinda like a song on AM radio in the 70's one never played much attention to until a bunch of plays, then ya love it!
        3. Madison County - a lot of heavy subject matter and themes in that one, but kids go thru tuff childhoods and are resilient. Really good movie
        4. Assault of the Sasquatch - Hilarious! And then kind of sad the backstory. The 2 deputies should have just gone and gotten a room, there was perfect chemistry there. The police station floppy was funny and a goofball with her big showdown AND the one and only Shawn and his buddy chasing down Mr Sasquatch. He should have his own series
All of these movies have the same groovy, goofy curveball classic horror film tones that make something like the Z Nation such a smash.
I dunno If they call this the Indie movie making scene anymore but everyone, cast and crew end up with movies that are gems, real labor of love even though they don't have big budgets, rock on!!!
