Reason they're similar is because the same people are involved in making the movies

'Boxhead' Robots they get called and yea, looks like Neill Blomkamp likes the style in his films, if your a Gamer check out 'Titanfall' its full of imagery that wouldn't be out of place in one of his films.. He is a fan of it and i often wonder if he would make a film of it which would be great!..
