She was a cute brunette, singer of rock tunes, she had some guy helping her escape from a murderous ex who was hunting them down? I seem to remember that some or all of it was set in the desert. One of those VHS flicks that I saw as a kid, probably not much good, but hey, any ideas?

No desert scene, nor was the girl a rock singer but the plot sounds like "Something Wild" with Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels, and Melanie is being pursued by her dangerous and I believe a felon who broke his parole boyfriend Roy Liotta
