I think it's safe to say 90% of film actors and directors checked out their IMDb message boards more than a few times. They're vain egotistical people.
And yeah, a good portion of them saw something they had to address and so they did. I mean c'mon, you know damn well a guy like Mel Gibson got drunk and went after a few trolls.
The only problem would be figuring out who's real and who's a poseur.
When you get down to 'B' movie actors and directors, and the camera lighting and production people? I'm sure half of them posted on IMDb.
That's why I still think Col Needham and IMDb were fools to close their boards. They had such industry clout.
How many D-list actresses committed suicide over something some troll said on their boards? Lol.

Yes, I fought with Terry Crews there and defended Michael Biehn.
Now that social media has hit the big time we can see how much of a market there is for celebrities engaging with fans. It's not difficult to imagine them posting incognito to scratch some itch.

i remember almost 10 years ago the writer of the sci-fi film
          Pandorum
(one of my personal faves) was posting on the message boards answering questions and responding to fan theories
it was pretty cool, also sad cause the movie bombed hard and he had written plans for a trilogy and he was talking about a possible kickstarter campaign

I used to have an account that existed solely on the Talk Writers board and a lot of those users were actual screen writers who just needed somewehere to share ideas and seek a little guidance.
Writing is a lonely business. That place served up just what those guys were looking for.
Everyone used pseudonyms, so I couldn't say who actually posted there, but many were clearly at the top of their game and just happy to be able to share their wisdom.

I've been IMDB since 2008 on my old account and 2013 on this one. Seen lots of replies from B type actors and Hermit C-2 had plenty of replies from the porn stars he wished happy birthday to.
Some times its people who left acting and as a fan of Clerks missing this one annoyed me.

Sir Ridley was a gentleman, even in the face of all of those boorish haters.
Remember Angry James? He sold himself as a cool guy, he had a mansion in the Maidstone hills and a London apartment. He wrote scripts, he drank pints with his tattooed stepson at retro Punk gigs, he got into street fights. His girlfriend was photographed jogging prettily through the docklands on a beautifully lit rainy evening…
The reality was some lumpen, bespectacled, dude in a cardigan who lived in a caravan and did part-time my modelling for the mature section of Freeman's.

It says in his signature that it's him. I doubt IMDb would let an imposter account run around saying that.

It's a shame you missed him, he didn't pop in very often but, strangely, it often coincided with the haters melting down.

Yes, he was a good guy. And a great example of how a real man handles online fighting. He and I always used to PM each other and discuss not just the board, but our actual lives. We might have been at each other's throats in public, but we knew it meant nothing.
The odd time I PMed Harry, James or Taud, all I got back where butthurt responses that told me they cried themselves to sleep about me.
it often coincided with the haters melting down.
I think they didn't like the fact that Sir Ridley was proud of his creation and not afraid to take them on in their own lair.

Wait, Taud was a real person and not Harry's sock?
He wasn't all that smart but he was at least articulate. Harry has proven here that his gibberish style is not an act.
James used to write me essays about why it was okay to bully and doxx a guy who had a breakdown, because he once called him names. He also asked to meet irl, silly guy.
He was pathetic. Not for wanting to meet you though, I get that. Pathetic to think you'd see anything in it for you.
Do you remember he once told us all how he would show people our posts at parties? Strange parties. Imagine showing somebody one of my He Cant posts and trying to explain it!
