Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — MacGyver

It's no secret this show sucks, but the gunplay is comedically bad and completely out of place.
First is all - bullets that ricochet off of wood cabinets and car doors This show completely underscores the destructive potential of firearms. The reasons are obvious - first, this show is bad. But also production limitations, and the tone of this show, which is clearly not serious.
But guns in MacGyver at all? Anyone who knows anything about the classic MacGyver character knows that: Mac not only doesn't use guns - he hates their very presence! One of the great things about the original MacGyver is how little gunplay there was, and when a gun was present - it was always kinda a big deal.
The way this show flippantly uses gunplay - both in terms of sloppy production, and as a lazy action fallback - instead of properly building Mac's character just one more way this show not only squandered potential, but didn't even make a well researched attempt in the first place.

Dude, I am trained in the use of firearms. And movies and TV have always been laughably bad when it comes to understanding how guns work and especially in how gunfights go down. My favorite trope is how there will be a gun fight, both sides are behind cover, and they will keep going out of cover and shooting at nothing and pissing away their ammunition for no reason.
Its not exclusive to this show. Its almost every show and movie.

I'd suggest watching some of the The Walking Dead Episodes where Michonne doesn't have her katana , and is instead using a Beretta 92fs / M9 ; you'll laugh your ass off 😄
That grip.. compared to this all gunscenes in MacGyver are professional ..
