As Sophie pointed out on my thread, Mia Goth is also really great here. I assume you've watched the Pearl trilogy?

Yep but they were a bit hit and miss for me. I like her though. She does crazy really well.

Ooooh you HAVE to watch Bad Sisters. It's dark comedy. And Claes Bang was perfect.

It's weird. I both like the aesthetic, but at the same time the set design looksโ€ฆ.cheap. like the sometimes 2 dimensional pillars. ๐Ÿ˜ณ And still, sometimes, video game style movement.

One of the other major subtexts of the book is fatherhood. Mary Shelley's mother died in childbirth and she didn't always have the greatest relationship with her father. So a lot of that made it into the characters and Victor is repeating the cycle with his "child."

One thing I really appreciated here is that it
really delves into Victor's childhood in a way that other adaptations haven't. He wasn't some well-meaning but short-sighted "mad scientist" who unleashed a "monster." He was an egomaniac and the "monster" is the most sympathetic character.
                                .

I think so. Haven't watched that one in a while. My go-to for pure entertainment value has always been the one with Christopher Lee.

And Guillermo del Toro has captured all of these themes in his screenplay, ignoring all previous cinematic depictions and finally giving the world a proper adaptation of one of the English language's best novels.
absolutely. And i wasnt expecting it either. Going into it, I thought this movie is woke bullshit. What could a MEXICAN know about it?
                                          But i was pleasantly surprised.
