I just watched the film and don't remember New Orleans being mentioned by name at all? It's pretty obvious that is the setting and they even show us a shot of Louis Armstrong airport early on. However, I can only remember verbal references to 'Crescent City' and 'Crescent Police' etc.
Assuming I'm not mistaken, is there any reason for this?

I wondered that as well. The whole time I kept thinking that it was some suburb of New Orleans or something.

Yes its because its based on French comic with a made up town and name of the town.

The Crescent City is a popular nickname for New Orleans, just like Gotham is an old nickname for New York. As in Batman, they used the nickname rather than the real name. It references a real place, but is still it's own unique place.

Thanks for your help. I did later discover that Crescent City is a popular nickname for New Orleans. It all makes sense now!
