Can't call 43 episodes "five seasons".
Don't care how many "premieres" it had.
In the "Golden Age" of TV a season might have been 39 episodes !
I feel it's apples to oranges to compare the run of Southland to , for example, the seven year 144 episode run of Hill Street Blues.

Many shows that are not on network channels, have shorter seasons. Game of Thrones on HBO has only ten episodes per season.
