Confused by beginning home video clips

So the beginning shows Val Kilmer reading while in the Mammoth tent, but then at some point it cuts to Jane having a cut on her forehead and a parasite peeks out. They try to get it out, but it goes back into her head.
I was waiting for her to get a cut on her head throughout the movie, but she never does. Was that not Jane? Or was the movie severly edited and no one noticed before they released the movie? -

It wasn't Jane, it was credited as a different person. She was second in the list of credits (it was by order of appearance)and didn't have a name was just something like 'girl with cut on head.' Jane appeared further down the credits

It looked like the guy in the clip at the beginning of the movie that's standing next to/behind the girl with the parasite in her forehead is the same guy at the end of the film with the dog who finds the dead infected bird. They looked like the same guy to me. I'm assuming it's his girlfriend/sister/friend who's infected. Don't think it was Jane. If it was Jane, she wouldn't be wondering what it was in her forehead, she'd already know. The first clip was the beginning of the end, so to speak, and the end was leading up to the beginning clip.
I've already seen the worst movie ever made, so it can only be uphill from there. -

SPOILERS (etc. etc. ad nauseam)
Everything you see at the beginning of the film comes after the end two or three weeks after, maybe. (Evelyn obviously managed to get the tape to civilization and leak it onto the 'net as Kuiper wanted, which is why we see it there.) If you listen to one of the news reports that floats through the opening montage, it's obvious the parasite has already made it to civilization ("four hundred dead, over ten thousand infected"); Evelyn was infected when the rescue team found her (note her makeup job in the final scene and compare it to the scenes at the beginning where Jane was sick, but not completely out of it yet) and spread the parasite to civilization. -

More spoilers.
It was the corvid that was infected from the beginning of the movie that started the widespread infection, not Evelyn; it was dining on the mammoth behind the polar bear that the research team tranq'd. The last shot of the movie shows the guy's dog eating the dead bird from the start of the movie. The camera moves in closer to show the vertebrates emerging from the bird after the dog had already eaten from it.
If Evelyn was infected, I don't think she'd be allowed to have discourse with the general public, or anyone outside of the CDC, let alone to the media. The sallow look she has when the medical team arrives could probably be explained by having to sit around in less than comfortable temperatures, probably for an extended period of time, and shock.
