The ending CGI ruined the entire movie for me.

I watched this movie with my fingers crossed with the hopes that it would be a psychological thriller (with anti sci-fi undertones). That's what this movie
should
have been, and it let me down.big time.
It started out great and I loved the whole movie until the end.
In my mind the movie could have gone one of two ways:- I fancied the idea that Howard was a psychotic paranoid conspiracy theorist who kidnaps people under the ruse that he is saving them from an alien invasion that is only taking place in his head. That way, the movie should have ended when Michelle exits the bunker and realizes that it was just a lie. And the woman pounding on the door of the bunker screaming to come inside? She should have just been:
A. A tortured kidnap victim brainwashed into believing she was dying from the air outside. If this wasn't the case and Howard wasn't a maniac/kidnapper, then the word "HELP" wouldn't have been scratched on the window in the first place. It would have been fitting for the story.
B. A crisis actor that pretends she's dying to prevent people from leaving the bunker should they try to escape (okay that one's a little far fetched, but then again aren't all sci-fi movies far fetched?) - But, being that the alien invasion was in fact real, we get to see the CGI aliens in all their pixelated glory. I'm not saying the alien invasion itself ruined the movie, just the use of CGI and he way it was overdone.
Either way it would have been a good movie if Hollywood would just show some restraint on the use of CGI action scenes. That is my real complaint. My philosophy is "less is more." I love a movie that keeps you guessing long after it's over. With this movie, the ending ties up the loose ends, but instead of tying one nice knot, it's a hangman's noose, in this casethe over use of CGI where subtlety would have sufficed.
