Dick Woolf is credited with being the creator of the Law & Order franchise, however, way back in 1978 the BBC produced 'Law and Order', a mini-series described as a "Four-part drama series about the British judicial system, dealing with an investigation presented from the perspectives of the police force, the criminal, the solicitor and the prison system." Sound familiar? I found it easily on IMDb

The past is a series of presents. The present is living history we are privileged to witness

The original British drama called LAW AND ORDER was a dark show which showed the police as being corrupt and violent, and showed the judges and lawyers in a negative way as well, apart from the title I don't see any connection to LAW AND ORDER which is a much more balanced and entertaining and educational thing.

Law and Order was based on (or inspired by) GF Newman's BBC series, Dick Wolf has said so.He subsequently offered to give Newman an acknowledgement in the credits but Newman wasn't fussed.
