We start with Cesar Romero and work our way forward in time Warren
    Don't forget Mark Hamill
Sure Jerad Leto and Joaquin Phoenix might not have lived up to the grandeur of the others for trying to be different, they just didn't choose the right different to work when it was needed.
But the Joker is more than just an actor who plays them in moving pictures

Mark Hamill is a terrible actor and that was an annoying, dumb voice.
I dunno how he managed to get jobs.

He was a good Joker in a Warner Brothers animation from 1992 (The height of the Taz-Mania, Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain era) following on from Lethal Weapon 2 and Batman (1989) established guidelines for Looney Tunes in broader fiction.
I know his recent foray into the political realm has upset some people ((And rightly so) but he's a talented voice actor and a reasonably decent live action one when given the right roles (See 'The Fall of the House of Usher').
Tim Curry was in the running for Joker at the same time. Just to think how that could have gone!?
To think that they each are characters in Criminal Minds. Were I a fan fiction man I'd have had their paths cross for sure
